Bastille Day July 14th - La Fête Nationale

Today, July 14th is Bastille Day, a National Holiday in France and as I lay awake in bed last night listening to my neighbours celebrating into the wee small hours I was thinking of the evening about 20 years ago when we saw "LES MISÉRABLES" at the Palace Theatre in London's West End.

Embarrasingly I have to own up that I had no difficulty falling asleep that evening, that's right I fell asleep during the performance.

Have you ever fallen asleep somewhere where you shouldn't have?

Do tell! .......there'll be a small prize for the snooze I consider to be the most embarrassing!

  1. Maggie,

Our neighbors at the lake celebrated until the very wee hours of the morning on the 4th. I am getting old because I was furious that they screamed and yelled and set off firecrackers until 2am.

I think I fell asleep in a class once - the same one where I dropped a knitting needle which rolled to the front of the auditorium....

    Have a great day.

  2. I usually decorate for Bastille Day (Mr. Art @ Home is from New Orleans), but today is all about Harry Potter around here. I have never fallen asleep in public in my life.....your story is too funny, Maggie! :D

  3. Hallo Maggie, thanks so much for visiting my blog. Yes, it is good to celebrate. You can see pictures of our play here http://gallery.me.com/pslb/100098

I have friends in Le Havre so know a little of the top half of Normandy.

I did once nod off, hot hectic day, boring speeches, after lunch, long tiring drive, repetitious ceremony - all the right excuses - but it was my daughter's graduation (though not for her bit of it of course!).

  4. When our huge Home Depot first opened The Great Dane was very happy and wanted to visit at every opportunity. One Sunday, on the way home from church he had to 'pick up a little something' from the HD. There was something about the air in the store - the off-gassing, perhaps - but as I waited for him I sat on a stack of carpets, and before I knew it I'd tipped over and fallen asleep. I think everyone we knew walked by and saw me in my Sunday best, sound asleep in the carpet aisle. I was mortified!

  6. A couple of years ago when I went on a bus tour in Europe with my mom and sister, I would fall asleep EVERY afternoon on the bus. Our tour director had the most lovely Welsh lilt to her voice and it never failed to make me doze off, no matter how interested I was in what she was saying.

  7. I once fell asleep at the end of yoga when the teacher was talking us down into deep relaxation. I was so relaxed I started snoring. LOL

  8. I think carpet aisle napper might beat me, but I fell asleep seated at the organ bench during Sunday worship service. When I awoke, I hit a few VERY LOUD pedal notes in the process during the sermon.

@ Sleepy bus tour: Don't fret, I fall asleep in the car tons!

Once, I worked a 24 hour + shift, then had to be at Church the next morning early for the Christmas musical, and decided that sleeping that afternoon would be bad, so I went shopping with friends. Needless to say, I fell asleep, snoring loudly for almost six hours. They couldn't even get me to wake up to join them for dinner at one of my favoirte resturants! The worst part? I drooled all over myself and their car!

    Now Following!
